Natural variation of an EF-hand Ca2+-binding-protein coding gene confers saline-alkaline tolerance in maize

This study revealed important information for breeding crops for higher salinity tolerance. This information not only can increase grain output in salinized areas, but it can also expand the available area of planting crops in salinized areas. More saline-alkali land can be used to ultimately increase crop output.
