The Roles of Silicon in Combating Cadmium Challenge in the Marine Diatom Phaeodactylum Tricornutum

This paper studies the role of silicon in the inhibition of cadmium toxicity in marine diatoms. It is shown that silicon enrichment enhances cadmium tolerance and alters cadmium accumulation in marine diatoms. This indicates that silicon plays an important role in carrying metal homeostasis and in combating cadmium challenge in marine diatoms.
